Walk The Mountains Of Mourne
The Mourne Mountains or Mournes (Na Beanna Boirche), a granite mountain range located in County Down in the south-east of Northern Ireland, are among the most famous of the mountains in the country. The surrounding area is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is proposed as the first National Park in Northern Ireland. The Mountains of Mourne are partly owned by the National Trust and see a large number of visitors every year. The highest mountain is Slieve Donard at 849 metres (2,786 ft).

Where we will be staying: In the Tory Bush Cottages, Bryansford, Newcastle.
Tory Bush Cottages are beside Tollymore Forest Park, overlooking the Mourne Mountains in County Down Northern Ireland and being just 600 meters from the Ulster Way are ideally situated for hill walks. The self catering cottages are built in 'Clachan' style, of traditional appearance with white-washed walls and slate roofs. Dry stone walls, original gates and pillars give the appearance of a 'turn-of-the-century' Ulster farm yard.
Itinerary of Trip
Arrive at approx 21:00 on Friday evening and settle into our accommodation. Relax for the evening or enjoy a pint in a pub nearby.
Saturday : We will walk the Hare's gap and Slieve Donard 849m starting from our accommodation and finishing in Newcastle.This is approx 4- 5 hr walk through some of the Mournes most spectacular peaks. The trail follows an old mine route up to the walls of the Mournes, which we follow along to the peak of Slieve Donard with views over Newcastle, Tollymore National Park and Irish Sea towards Scotland.
Sunday: Choice of Walk in the area to suit the group.

- Hillwalking Boots /shoes (can be very wet under foot at this time of year.)
- Wind / waterproof jacket
- Socks Leggings / tracksuit bottoms ( not Jeans )
- Thermal top / T-shirt
- Fleece & spare fleece
- Hat &gloves
- Overtrousers
- Flask for hot drink on walk.
- Rucksack with liner
- Reflective armband
- Spare socks
- Sun Cream (you never know)
N.B The Mournes are in Northern Ireland and the money is in Sterling.
