The Kerry way as the name suggests sits in the heart of County Kerry starting in a loop from one of Ireland’s most beautiful and visited town’s, Killarney.
Although Kerry boasts most of Ireland’s highest peaks the trail actually takes you around rather than over these mountains. The trail is over 200Km in length making it one of Ireland’s longest and most popular trails.
The trail brings you through some of the most breath taking scenery in all of Ireland from high rugged peaks deep in the reeks, the Killarney lakes, ancient old tracks, green roads to Kenmare, coastline cliff walks and all the while enjoying the great views out across the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding areas.
Kerry is steeped in history and there are many great archaeological interests along the way, standing stones, Ogham Stone (Ancient Celtic Script) Stone Circles and Valentia Island hosts some of the oldest footprints in the world.
Whatever your interests Kerry is sure to encapsulate you.
I do recommend giving yourself some extra time to take in these great villages and towns you pass along the way. Valentia Island or the Skellig Islands are incredible and can be reached from Portmagee on the Ring of Kerry.
Getting to Killarney:

Visitors can fly into Kerry.
CORK AIRPORT www.corkairport.com
Visitors can fly into Cork and can hire a car at the airport. Avail of public transport and either take a train from Cork Train Station in the city centre to Killarney or Bus Eireann from the Central Bus Station to Killarney. There is a shuttle bus service between the airport and the train station.
DUBLIN AIRPORT www.dublinairport.com
Visitors can fly into Dublin and can either take a train from Dublin Heuston Train Station in the city centre to Killarney (go to www.irishrail.ie) or take Bus Eireann from Busáras Central Bus Station to Killarney. Also, flights are available with www.ryanair.com from Dublin to Kerry airport three times a day.
SHANNON AIRPORT www.shannonairport.com
There is a frequent shuttle bus from Shannon airport to Limerick. A direct bus goes from Limerick to Killarney.
SEA FERRY FROM SWANSEA TO CORK
The new Swansea to Cork route operated by Fastnet Line saves you 600km (375 miles) driving on a round trip and connects the M4 Motorway in the UK directly to Cork on Ireland's South coast. The service offers overnight sailing 6 nights a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from Cork and Wednesday, Friday & Sunday from Swansea) departing at 21:00 and arriving at 7:00 the next morning. Additional sailings are added in the high season.
