The walk
We will walk along an old road up the Upper Lake passing the Monastic site, which we will stop and visit. The walk then takes us through an old oak forest along the bottom right-hand side of the lake. From here we will pass by St' Kevin's Cell and Reefert church ("Ri fearta" or the King’s Cemetery and sacred Gaelic Chieftain burial grounds) and follow the trail along through the woods. We will then leave the trail and go into the trees to come out on top of one the most incredible views above the Upper Lake - a definite photo opportunity. We will then follow a board walk up towards the Gleneola River and bridge where we will stop for some lunch. From here we will take the path passing an old mining village and through a forest of old Scot pines. We will follow the trail along the side of the upper lake and through the heart of Glendalough valley back to where we started.
The walk will last approximately 3 -4 hours and will be taken at a very easy pace with an optional easier walk also.
There are plenty of stops and photo opportunities along the way.
No previous walking experience required.

"Hi Terry
Just to say that I really enjoyed the walk on Saturday in Glendalough and the evening meal etc and of course met a whole lot of very nice people. Well done, it is my first walk with Hilltop treks and i will do more during the year - We were blessed with the weather and the setting is indeed beautiful - St Kevin must be smiling on all the seekers of romance!
